Mercedes head to head with BMW X1

Friday, February 4th, 2011

Rumour has it that the direct rival from Mercedes could be called the GLC and will be run by small very efficient petrol and diesel engines, some of which will be sourced from Renault. It is also expected that a hybrid will also be in the range, but we will have to wait until next year for the launch with sales starting the following year and prices pitched at the £25k mark.

Break through to cheap petrol

Monday, January 31st, 2011

An Oxfordshire firm Cella Energy is developing a fuel which could sell for as little as 19p, the fuel is being developed from hydrogen and could be available in three to five years if trials prove successful.

Of course the government would no doubt slap their tax on so it would probably come in at around 60p a litre but even at that price would reduce the cost dramatically.

Cella Energy Stephen Voller said to the Daily Mail “In some senses, hydrogen is the perfect fuel, it has three times more energy than petrol per unit of weight and when it burns, it produces nothing but water.”
He further added that it could be used in existing cars without the need of an engine change “Early indications are that the micro-beads can be used in existing vehicles without engine modification. Teh materials are hydrogen-based and so when used produce no carbon emission at the point of use, in a similar way to electric vehicles.”

So lets hope trials go well for the Oxford firm and we all see cheaper prices at the pumps.
