Japan crisis and car parts

Friday, March 25th, 2011

With the current Japan crisis it is anticipated that the production of car parts could be affected up to a staggering 35% and that pans out to nearly 5 million new cars world-wide.

These predictions have come from IHS Automotive and arrived at that the expectation is that supply problems will continue for some further 12 weeks. Japanese car production is around 14 % of the total worlds output, but certain shortages will have a knock on effect in Europe with Peugeot Citroen stopping production on some models already and others warning of impending problems.

It must be said that it is very early days and given the Japanese work ethic and organisational skills they will no doubt minimise production problems as quickly as they can.
