Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Landover has 1000 vacancies at its Halewood plant and has received a staggering 35000 applications, within 24 hours 6000 had registered their applications and within a week this number had reached 20000, needless to say no further applications are being accepted.

The jobs are being created by Jaguar Land Rover for the production of the Range Rover Evoque and the Freelander 2 and to keep up with demand the working day has been increased to 24 hours thus production is up by 50 %.

Des Thurlby a director of Jaguar Land Rovers said “ JLR has a clear ambition for continued growth and we are delighted that so many people want to join us on that journey.” He further adds “We are very pleased with the quality of candidates applying for these new roles and more than 100 applicants have already started with us. The scale of the response to our recruitment campaign reflects JLR’s growing reputation as an employer of choice in the North West.”

The Haulage Association – Slams Fuel Price Hike

Monday, April 16th, 2012

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) have accused the oil companies and petrol forecourts of “naked profiteering” over the price of diesel.
Geoff Dunning has stated “We have no doubt that diesel prices at the forecourt have rocketed as a result of the uncertainty caused by the threat of a tanker drivers’ strike. He further added “Retailers have doubled their profit margin on diesel over the past month. While the wholesale price of diesel has come down, none of this has been passed on to road users and if anything the price at the pump has gone up.
“There is no justification whatever for they excessive charging. Profit margins on diesel were already reasonable and have now doubled to around 7.4 pence a litre, this aggressive pricing amounts to more than the Chancellor’s hugely unwelcome duty increase due on August 1 when fuel tax goes up by 3.02 pence per litre.
“The predatory pricing by retailers is a severe blow to the economy and of particular concern to the RHA to smaller hauliers who do not have their own bulk fuel supplies but make payments linked to forecourt prices.
Finally Geoff Dunning stated that he is considering taking the matter to the Office of Fair Trading, if the matter persists much longer.
