Calls to Crackdown on Whiplash

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

At long last the issue of the rising whiplash claims is being tackled and the AA reflects the general feeling about this “cannot come soon enough”.
Government ministers are attending a motor insurance summit in London and this matter is taking high priority and when you are talking about £2million in claims each year and it costing us all around £80 on our policies questions need to be asked.
Included in issues being raised is the sometime doubtful medical evidence, the AA have said that over the past two years, claims for whiplash injury contributed to the biggest car insurance premium increases ever recorded. Over the two years, the average quote for comprehensive cover rose by nearly 50%.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: “I hope that the Government announcement will see a tight timescale applied to reform of the civil litigation which at present, encourages people to make a claim regardless of how serious their injury is or even if they have not suffered injury at all.
“Importantly, we need reforms that clamp down on cold-call claims management and personal injury firms who have contributed to the growth of claims.”
Mr Douglas said he was disappointed in the slow rate of progress shown in the House of Commons Transport Committee’s latest report on motor insurance, published in April.
Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke said the Government’s plans will aim to tackle questionable medical evidence and make it “quicker, cheaper and easier for valid injury claims to be dealt with through the small claims court”.

Toyota Winning the Hybrid Race

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

The hybrid market is becoming very competitive bur recently Toyota has claimed it has a whopping 75% of the UK market.

Since 2007 there has been around 100000 hybrid cars sold and of them as of March this year 77000 were from Toyota, these came from both the Toyota brand and the upmarket Lexus badge.

The reason could be that Toyota has actually had the most commercial success due to the fact the engine does not need to run constantly in the background and no cables are required and with the arrival of plug in hybrids that can easily exclude the engine from the drivetrain altogether and more importantly for extended length on time, Toyota have also developed a plug in version of the Prius.
