In a recent poll 9 out 10 motorists surveyed blamed the government for the high petrol costs with an amazing three quarters stating that MPs are “out of touch” on the reality of high prices.
Quentin Willson the Fair Fuel spokesman said “Our MPs and senior politicians just don’t get fuel duty and the results of this extensive poll show that the public know it. “Their failure to act and their apathy over what is one of this country’s most important social issues tell us how removed they are from real life”
“Families and business can’t afford to use the roads yet the majority of out MPs won’t stand up for the people.”

Peter Carrol from Fair Fuel also added “The airwaves have been full of politicians saying that they are “listening to” and “engaging with” voters – they need to start by accepting the results of this massive poll starting with the fact that fuel duty is the number one issue.”

BVRLA ensures parking fine responsibility stays with customers
Successful lobbying by the BVRLA has ensured that vehicle rental and leasing companies will retain the ability to have private parking fines transferred to the customers who incur them.

The Protection of Freedoms Bill, which received royal assent last week, bans the clamping of vehicles on private land from 1 October 2012. Although private parking firms will be allowed to pursue registered keepers for unpaid parking fines, rental and leasing firms will be able to transfer the fines to the customer – meaning they cannot be penalised for the misdeeds of others.

Had the bill gone through unchallenged, rental and leasing firms would have been held liable.

The BVRLA, the only organisation to lobby for this safeguard, will now work with the British Parking Association to ensure that customers’ details can be passed to private parking firms in a simple way, without the need for complex evidential requirements such as copies of rental and lease agreements.
