The Co-operative Motor Group has released a new report which has shown that drivers losing their licences due to falling eyesight has more than doubled over the last four years.
Head of road safety at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, commented that he was unsure if the rise in the number was due more to people failing to notice the deterioration in their eyesight or just not wearing the glasses prescribed, he further added “People don’t have to fear losing their licence, they just have to go the opticians. We can’t stress enough the importance of having an eye check every two years, or more often if your optician says so, he explained.”
There has been quite a debated over this issue with the Royal Sun Alliance calling for more frequent checks of drivers eyesight in a bid to decrease accidents caused by poor sight.
