Cost spiral for young drivers

The average wage for a 16- 17-year-old is just under £10000 and the cost of driving is spiraling out of control and becoming just too expensive and in some rural area this could become a real issue when they have to drive to work.

Typically the cost of learning to drive can be anywhere up to as much as £1200 and then you have the cost of a car but they pale in comparison to the insurance cost, many young drivers being quoted premiums of £5k, £6k or even £7k on basic small engine cars.

There have been suggestion to follow more of the Australian system of hours of driving as well as the test, but also maybe a further young driver test to be taken after a course 12 months after passing the current test.
