BMW and the future

When it comes to the future I think we cannot help but think about self driving, flying or super speed cars. Maybe some of it is just a bit too far-fetched but BMW are looking to the future and developing some both exciting and useful technology.

Firstly there is the driverless system which they first developed on the race track, the car followed the pre-programmed best possible route allowing the perfect lap time, from this they then took to the roads, a driver has to be in command at all times to comply with legislation, but once on the motorway with the press of a button the car takes over. The programme ensures that the car returns to the inside lane after any overtaking and that is done with ample space so a smooth drive is insured.

It is a long long way from the showroom, with many problems such as road works needing to be ironed out, but in the meantime they are forging ahead with the Emergency Stop Assist, which is also being developed by other manufacturers, but will be a brilliant development once in production, the systems reads the drivers health through sensors so will be able to assist in area such as diabetes, as well as more sudden onset illness such as a heart attack, the car will come to a safe stop and then call the emergency services.
